A foreign citizen can only acquire the right to own property in Hungarywith a government office permit. The foreigner does not need to obtain agovernment office permit in the following cases:
- citizens of the member states of the EuropeanUnion
- For citizens of Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland
- For citizens of Switzerland
- for dual citizens, one of whose citizenships isHungarian
- in case of inheritance
- in the case of the acquisition of real estate bypersons with refugee and protected status
An application for the acquisition of real estate by foreigners must besubmitted to the competent government office on a form in Hungarian, and thepreliminary contract or the final contract must be attached, as well as proofof payment of the processing fee (HUF 50,000), and a certified copy of theapplicant's passport must be attached.
